Heading out for a day of private fishing in Matagorda Bay with Ameet and the Bay Finatic Fishing Guide Service was an absolute blast. As a guide, I always look forward to these kinds of trips – just getting out on the water, chasing fish, and enjoying the company of fellow anglers. These hard-fighting fish put on an incredible show, making long runs and cartwheeling across the surface. Ameet was a natural, keeping his cool and working the fish expertly. In between the Spotted Weakfish bites, we even managed to hook into a few other inshore species, adding some variety to the day.

By mid-morning, the bite had really picked up, and we were kept busy reeling in fish after fish. The teamwork and camaraderie on the boat were fantastic, with everyone pitching in to get the lines back in the water quickly. Between the steady action and the great company, the time just flew by. Matagorda Bay Fishing Report on 4th May, 2025

What a day we had out on the water in Matagorda, Texas! The crew and I had a blast running a 7 Hour Private Fishing Charter with Bay Finatic Fishing Guide Service LLC. April is a prime time to target a variety of inshore species in these waters, and we couldn't have asked for better conditions - partly cloudy skies kept the sun from beating down too hard, and the bay was calm and comfortable all day.

We met up at Harbor Bait & Tackle, LLC right at 6:30 AM and wasted no time getting the lines in the water. The group was excited to try their hand at jigging, bow fishing, bait casting, light tackle, and drift fishing, so we covered a lot of ground and water column to target different species. It didn't take long before Bob's rod doubled over - he'd hooked into a feisty Black Drum that put up one heck of a fight. We tossed the net and brought that beauty onboard, then quickly baited up and got the lines back out.

The bite stayed steady throughout the day, with the crew adding Red Fish (Red Drum) to the cooler as well. We used a variety of techniques to keep the action going, and everyone got in on the fun, cheering each other on with every hookup. Between the constant action and the beautiful scenery, it was an all-around fantastic day on the water. Matagorda is such a special fishery, with so many opportunities to target a diverse array of inshore gamefish, and we made the most of it.

If you're looking to experience the best full-day inshore fishing Matagorda, TX has to offer, I highly recommend booking a 7 Hour Private Fishing Charter with Bay Finatic Fishing Guide Service LLC. Whether you're after Black Drum, Red Fish (Red Drum), or want to mix it up and try different techniques, we'll make sure you have an unforgettable day. The possibilities are endless, and we can't wait to get you out on the water. Give us a call and let's set something up - you won't regret it!

Matagorda Bay Fishing Report
Current Conditions:
Weather: Warm and sunny, with temperatures ranging from 75°F in the morning to 88°F by afternoon. Light southeast winds at 5-10 mph.
Water Temperature: Averaging around 80°F.
Tides: Low tide at 7:30 AM, high tide at 2:15 PM.
Fishing Overview:
The fishing in Matagorda Bay has been excellent this week, with anglers reporting abundant catches and active fish throughout the bay. The calm winds and clear skies have created ideal conditions for both inshore and offshore fishing.

Species Report:
Speckled Trout: Speckled trout are biting well, especially in the early morning and late afternoon. Most successful anglers are using live shrimp under popping corks or soft plastics near grassy shorelines and oyster reefs. The average size is 16-20 inches, with several reports of larger trout over 25 inches. Captain Joe Guerra of Bay Finatic has been guiding clients to their limits of speckled trout daily, ensuring exciting and fruitful trips.

Redfish: Redfish action remains strong, particularly in the shallow flats and along marsh edges. Cut mullet and live shrimp are the baits of choice, with many redfish in the slot size of 20-28 inches. Sight-casting has been productive in the clear waters, providing thrilling opportunities for anglers.

Flounder: Flounder are being caught in decent numbers, primarily around sandy bottoms and near the mouths of creeks. Gulp baits and live mud minnows have been effective. While the numbers are not as high as other species, the quality of flounder has been good, with fish averaging 16-20 inches.

Black Drum: Black drum are plentiful around deeper channels and near structures. Fresh dead shrimp on the bottom has been the key to success. Many anglers are landing drum in the 14-24 inch range.

Hot Spots:
East Matagorda Bay: The oyster reefs and grassy shorelines have been particularly productive for speckled trout and redfish.
Colorado River Mouth: Excellent spot for flounder and black drum, especially during the changing tides.
South Shoreline: Consistent action for redfish and trout, especially near marsh drains and sandbars.
Tips from Captain Joe Guerra:
"Early morning and late evening are the best times to fish right now, especially for speckled trout. Use live bait if you can, and focus on the grassy shorelines. Don't forget to check the regulations and keep an eye on the weather—safety first!"

Conclusion:
Matagorda Bay is delivering outstanding fishing opportunities this week. Whether you're a seasoned angler or new to the sport, the current conditions and expert guidance from Captain Joe Guerra at Bay Finatic promise an unforgettable fishing adventure. Get out there and enjoy the bountiful waters of Matagorda!
